How to Update Surface Headphones on Windows/Android/iOS

If you want to Update Surface Headphones, you can using Cortana (but if it’s available in your area) on your Windows PC, Android or iOS. If Cortana isn’t available, you can use the Surface Headphones app on your Windows 10 PC.

Install Update Surface Headphones with Cortana App

Follow steps below how to install updates surface headphones using Cortana app on your Windows 10 PC/Android/iOS. First, you’ll need to be connected to your device using the included USB cable (for Windows 10) or over Bluetooth (for iOS, Android, or Windows 10).

To update your headphones more quickly, use the USB cable and your PC instead of updating them over Bluetooth.

1. Windows 10 PC

  1. Set up your Surface Headphones with Cortana. Learn more: How to Setup Surface Headphones with Cortana
  2. Plug the USB cable into your Windows 10 PC, then plug the other end into the USB-C port on your headphones.
  3. Open Cortana > Devices  > Manage my Surface Headphones.
  4. Select Check for updates under Firmware updates or select Update if there’s an update already available.

Note: The update will take a few minutes to download, and you can use your headphones during this time. After the download, your headphones will restart and the update will take a few minutes to install. During the installation, your headphones will appear to be off. If your Surface Headphones don’t reconnect automatically after the update is finished, press the power button on the headphones to turn them off, then turn them back on to reconnect.

  2. Open the Cortana app > Devices tab. Go to the Devices menu > choose Surface Headphones.
  3. If an update is available, tap Update Now. To check for updates anytime, select Surface Headphones > Updates > Check for updates.

Note: The update will take a while to download and install (up to 30 minutes or more). After the download, your headphones will restart and the update will take a few minutes to install. During the installation, your headphones will appear to be off. If your Surface Headphones don’t reconnect automatically after the update is finished, press the power button on the headphones to turn them off, then turn them back on to reconnect.

Install Update using Surface Headphones App on Windows 10

  1. Set up your Surface Headphones with the Surface Headphones app.
    • Press and release the power button quickly to turn on your headphones, they’ll be pairing mode the first time you turn them on. If you’ve paired your headphones with another device, press and hold the power button until you hear they’re in pairing mode. When your headphones are in pairing mode, the LED light will flash white.
    • Select Start  > Settings  > Devices  > Bluetooth & other devices  > Add Bluetooth or other devices > Bluetooth .
    • Select Surface Headphones and then select Done.
  2. Plug the USB cable into your Windows 10 PC then plug the other end into the USB-C port on your headphones.
  3.  Select Start > Surface Headphones in the app list.
  4. In the Surface Headphones app, select Check for updates under Firmware updates, or select Update if there’s an update already available.
